In the early 1800s Shandwick Pace was created as part of a new road from Edinburgh to Glasgow, and the land around it developed as a western extension to James Craig's original New Town.
This book recounts the history of the West End streets built in that Georgian phase: Alva Street, Atholl Crescent, Coates Crescent, Maitland Street, Manor Place, Melville Crescent. Melville Street, Queensferry Street, Rutland Square, Rutland Street, Shandwick Place, Walker Street, William Street.
With over 450 illustrations, this history provides a fascinating portrayal of the changing nature of Edinburgh's Georgian West End.
