Infrastructure is often viewed primarily through the lens of engineering, with a focus on structural safety, function and efficiency. Yet the design of these systems and structures is critical to shaping the places we live, work and move through. In this issue we look at island infrastructure, the legacy of urban motorways, the civic role of stations, and the complex challenges facing our cities and infrastructure today — asking how architects and other professions can work together to create better-connected, more resilient places. We also have three excellent case studies from OMA, NORR and Grimshaw, allowing an insight to working on infrastructure projects and what architects can bring to the table.
