This book relates the story of community spirit and sheer determination that restored Dunoon's iconic cultural building The Burgh Hall. Disused and dilapidated, this 1874 listed building, the first theatre in Argyll and for a hundred years the centre of cultural life in Dunoon, eventually fell into disrepair and was unused for a quarter of a century. The John McAslan Charitable Trust secured ownership of the building and nearly ten years later, a transformative project, led by the Dunoon Burgh Hall Trust, has been realised and this fully revived building now claims its rightful position as an arts-led community venue. Acclaimed photographer Martin Parr has a decade-long relationship with Dunoon and the book features a selection of his images which encourage the viewer to see everyday scenes and the people in them in a completely original way whilst conceding, affectionately, to the humorous eccentricities therein.
